House of the Dragon: Episode 4 is online

Rhaenyra, the eldest daughter of King Viserys I is the designated heir to the throne but the arrival of her half-brother Aegon has reshuffled the cards. Without counting on his uncle, Daemon Targaryendetermined to occupy a central place.

In episode 4 of season 1, the latter returns to Port-Real. He takes the opportunity to drag his young niece Rhaenyra through the streets of the city and introduce her to the pleasures of the flesh. The two get closer dangerously and share a kiss. What will not really shock the spectators of Game Of Thronesalready used to seeing incest on screen (hello Jaime and Cersei).

During their recent visit to Paris, we asked Milly Alcock (Rhaenyra) and Fabien Frankel (Ser Criston Cole) to tell us about the shooting of this sex scene.

It is Rhaenyra who initiates these two intimate sequences in the episode. This is a novelty because it was not the case in Game of Thrones. Seeing a woman take the lead is new, and it’s a good thing. It sums up what House of the Dragon wants to say about women, that they have control over their lives.

said Milly Alcock.

We have worked hard to make this scene as realistic as possible. Sex is also about taking off your clothes, your shoes, not necessarily being very skilful. All this “logistics” that we rarely see on screen. We talked a lot with the director Clare Kilner, we agreed on the fact that we didn’t want this scene to be like the others. We were inspired by the series “Normal People” where the love scenes seem realistic.

added Fabien Frankel.

During this shoot, an intimacy coordinator was present, so as to choreograph the scene, without it being embarrassing for the actors:

I can’t even fathom how we managed without those intimacy coordinators. It’s so important. Imagine you arrive on a film set and you have to shoot a sex scene with someone you don’t even know. It’s very embarrassing and you can see it on screen

Fabien Frankel told us.

We were only four in the room. I felt completely safe and comfortable. And I knew that if it hadn’t been the case, I would have had no trouble saying it. There was no pressure. It was really like learning choreography. We rehearsed and we knew exactly where to put our hands, legs etc. It was great fun

concluded Milly Alcock.
