From October 31 to November 13, 3 cases of dengue fever were recorded, compared to 6 cases for the previous fortnight. The virus is slowing down, but the prefecture is calling for vigilance with the onset of the austral summer, favorable to the proliferation of mosquitoes.

Press release from the prefecture

From October 31 to November 13, 3 cases of dengue fever were recorded, compared to 6 cases for the previous fortnight.

The virus continues to circulate on the island at a low level.

However, this situation associated with the onset of the austral summer and its more favorable weather conditions for the proliferation of mosquitoes, raises fears of a resumption of the dengue fever epidemic with the return of the rains.

Reunionese are encouraged to eliminate stagnant water in their homes (cups of potted plants, gutters, etc.) to prevent the proliferation of mosquitoes and protect themselves to avoid contracting dengue fever (repellents, etc.)

Over the period concerned, the 3 cases are distributed in the West of the island:

Saint Leu

· St.Paul

Recommendations to protect yourself from mosquito bites and dengue fever

· Eliminate and empty stagnant water, which can constitute breeding grounds for mosquitoes: cups, small containers, gutters, tires, etc.

· Protect yourself, including during the 7 days following the onset of symptoms to protect those around you (repellent, mosquito net, etc.); and continue to protect yourself, even if you have already been sick with dengue fever before

Consult a doctor at the first symptoms (fever, headache, muscle/joint pain, nausea, vomiting, etc.) and take the sample in the medical analysis laboratory prescribed by your doctor to confirm the diagnosis of dengue

If you are sick with dengue fever:

– continue to protect yourself against mosquito bites to avoid transmitting the disease to those around you and monitor your state of health,

– consult your doctor or, in his absence, an emergency service in the event of a deterioration in your state of health.
