We remember the images of the Earth taken from the Moon during the Apollo missions of the 1960s and 1970s. Artemis I and the Orion capsule are in the process of renewing this souvenir album with superb shots.
NASA has just released a video showing our blue planet emerging from behind the Moon. A sunrise of unparalleled beauty. The images come from one of the many cameras mounted on Orion.
A photo taken by astronaut Bill Anders during the Apollo 8 mission in 1968 known as ‘Earthrise’ has become iconic. Apollo 8 was the first crewed mission to orbit the Moon. She marked a milestone in space exploration by helping to prepare the ground for the Apollo 11 moon landing.
Artemis I is a test flight intended to put the massive Space Launch System rocket and Orion capsule through its paces before astronauts board for Artemis II. The trip has gone well so far, although the US space agency encountered a communication problem on Wednesday. Since then, contact with Orion has been restored and everything is back to normal.
