The iCloud for Windows app degrades videos in some cases. In addition, users also see photos that most likely belong to other iCloud users.

The MacRumors site receives various user reports on its forum about this problem. Owners of an iPhone 13 Pro or iPhone 14 Pro who sync a video with iCloud for Windows in particular, then find that their video turns black with lines and therefore cannot be viewed. Users however state that HDR and HEVC are enabled in their camera settings, when they want to reproduce the error.

The situation becomes even more disturbing as photos of strangers appear among the black frames of the videos. Family photos, of a football match or of children thus arise spontaneously. It is not known where these images come from, but it is not excluded that they are photos of other iCloud users, who end up elsewhere at Apple following a bug.

This doesn’t seem to be a general problem though. There are indeed users who specify that they are not struggling with the bug or cannot reproduce it. No such problem is currently reported on the same Apple forum.
